Mary Crabtree, an accomplished law enforcement professional, brings a wealth of expertise to her role as an Associate Crash Reconstructionist at BOLO Consulting. Currently serving as a Police Sergeant in the Traffic Unit, she oversees six specialty units and leads investigations into serious motor vehicle crashes. With a career spanning over a decade, Mary has demonstrated proficiency in various roles, including the Motor Unit, Traffic Homicide Unit, and Special Enforcement Team.

Mary’s commitment to excellence is evident in her extensive training and certifications, including various specialized courses in traffic accident investigation and reconstruction. Having conducted over 500 crash investigations/reconstructions, she possesses a deep understanding of the intricacies involved. Mary’s courtroom experience, testifying over 150 times, showcases her ability to communicate complex findings effectively.

With over 21 years of public safety experience, including a decade in law enforcement, Scott Schmidt now leverages his expertise in the private sector, working closely with attorneys and insurance companies. His career in public safety began at the age of 16 as a volunteer firefighter, where his passion for community service was first ignited. Following his time as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army, Scott developed exceptional leadership and investigative skills, which he continues to apply in his work today.

As a Collision Reconstructionist, Scott specializes in accident investigations and traffic management, providing expert analysis and consultation for legal and insurance cases. His commitment to accuracy and thoroughness ensures that every investigation is conducted with the highest level of professionalism, delivering reliable results to his clients. Whether reconstructing accidents or offering detailed reports, Scott’s experience, dedication, and precision are invaluable assets in the private sector.

Michael Pettee, an ACTAR Certified Accident Reconstructionist, brings over a decade of specialized experience in traffic homicide investigations and twelve years in law enforcement. Currently serving as an officer for the Key West Police Department since 2012, Michael has held roles such as Traffic/Motor Officer and Traffic Homicide Investigator. He has conducted over 2,000 traffic crash investigations, including approximately 130 critical injury crashes and 20 fatal crash cases. His extensive field experience is further strengthened by the reconstruction of complex accident scenes using advanced tools like the FARO 3D laser scanner, with more than 40 laser-scanned scenes completed to date.

Michael’s qualifications extend beyond practical experience. He has undergone advanced training, including certifications in Traffic Crash Reconstruction (80 hours), Motorcycle Crash Investigation (40 hours), Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation (40 hours), and Event Data Recorder (EDR) Use. He is also a certified EDR technician and analyst, proficient in extracting critical crash data from vehicle systems, and has completed Bosch CDR Tool Technician Training.

Additionally, Michael has training in Pedestrian/Bicycle Crash Investigation and specialized courtroom testimony training from IPTM. He also serves as an instructor, teaching traffic crash investigations at the College of the Florida Keys and the Institute for Public Safety. Michael’s well-rounded expertise, combining technical proficiency and real-world investigative skills, makes him an essential member of our team, ensuring accurate, in-depth reconstructions critical for legal proceedings.

Lauren Firey holds over a decade of experience in vehicle safety research, crash analysis, and mechanical engineering. She brings to BOLO Consulting a unique blend of hands-on engineering expertise, data-driven analysis, and regulatory insight developed through her extensive work at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

 

During her time at NHTSA, Lauren served in a variety of critical roles, most recently as a Mechanical Engineer in the Office of Vehicle Safety Research. She co-led studies on Event Data Recorders (EDRs), crash avoidance systems, and occupant fatalities in frontal crashes. Her work contributed to shaping national safety policies, including efforts to modernize federal crash data regulations and support future rulemaking for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and automated vehicles (AVs). She also played a key role in program planning, technical evaluation, and interagency collaboration for vehicle safety initiatives.

 

Lauren’s expertise is grounded in her early career experience with General Motors in powertrain manufacturing, where she focused on process improvement and designing for manufacturability. This background gives her a comprehensive understanding of how vehicle systems function from the production floor to real-world crash scenarios.

 

She is a published researcher, having authored studies for the International Research Council on Biomechanics of Injury (IRCOBI), the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (ESV) Conference, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Government/Industry Meeting, and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and several professional certifications, including SAE International’s Accident Reconstruction Certificate.

 

At BOLO Consulting, Lauren applies her deep technical knowledge and investigative experience to provide expert-level accident reconstruction analysis, regulatory insights, and litigation support. Russell Brown is an Accident Reconstructionist at BOLO with over 29 years of frontline law enforcement experience and a proven track record of delivering expert insight in high-stakes traffic investigations. As a former Traffic Homicide Investigator for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and senior crash team leader, Russell has investigated hundreds of serious and fatal collisions—offering critical analysis that supports both criminal and civil litigation.

 

His expertise is especially valuable in personal injury cases, where accurate crash reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, and human factors analysis can determine liability, expose negligence, and clarify the sequence of events. Russell’s ability to gather, analyze, and present complex forensic evidence—such as crash data, cell phone records, and scene mapping—ensures that injury victims, attorneys, and insurers have a clear, objective foundation for legal claims and courtroom testimony.

 

In addition to his field credentials, Russell is a professor of Criminal Justice and Homeland Security at Purdue University Global and Herzing University. He is a curriculum author, instructor trainer, and recognized subject matter expert in areas such as DUI enforcement, pedestrian collisions, and commercial vehicle crashes.

Daniel Chavez is a seasoned fire service consultant with over 15 years of experience specializing in fire investigations, suppression strategies, emergency response planning, and public safety leadership. As a certified Fire Investigator, Fire Code Administrator, and Fire Service Instructor III, Daniel brings a deep operational and regulatory knowledge base to clients seeking to improve their fire and emergency service effectiveness.

 

Daniel has held executive leadership roles including Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Administrator, overseeing department operations, developing prevention programs, leading ISO audit readiness, and managing high-stakes incident investigations. His contributions have earned him the Florida Fire Inspector of the Year (FFMIA, 2017), Broward County Fire Inspector of the Year (FIABC, 2017), the Medal of Valor, Medal of Honor, a Town Commission Proclamation, and recognition as a Hometown Hero.

 

As a consultant, Daniel is an invaluable resource for attorneys involved in fire-related litigation. He offers expert support in cases involving fire origin and cause determination, code compliance, arson investigation, fire scene analysis, liability disputes, and fire-related fraud. His balanced understanding of fire service operations and regulatory standards allows him to provide credible expert witness testimony, case strategy insight, and investigative review. Daniel holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management, a Bachelor’s in Business Management and Information Systems from DeVry University, and an Associate’s degree in Fire Science Technology.
